Altmetall, verschiedene Längen
Für die ortsspezifische Installation unter der zentral gelegenen Roteiche wurde im
Vorfeld geeignetes Altmetall gesammelt. In einem akustischen Annäherungsprozess
wurden daraus 31 Töne des deutschen Wiegenlieds Schlaf, Kindlein, schlaf gestimmt.
David Horvitz’ in der Eiche installierte Skulptur zerlegt die Melodie dieses traditionellen
deutschen Lieds in einzelne Töne, die jeweils von großen Klangkörpern erklingen.
Jeder einzelne Ton eines Klangrohrs ist ein Fragment des vollständigen Liedes, das
nur in einem bestimmten Moment der Zeit existiert. In ihrer Gesamtheit vervollständigen die Töne das Wiegenlied und schreiten zeitlich voran, um einen surrealen Traumzustand zu erzeugen.
Die Besucher*innen der BRITZENALE sind eingeladen, das Glockenspiel anzustimmen
und das Schlaflied oder eine alternative Klanglandschaft an diesem Ort zu
erzeugen.
Für diese Arbeit haben David Horvitz, das BRITZENALE-Team, sowie Bernd Trasberger in enger Zusammenarbeit das Konzept umgesetzt, sodass der in Los Angeles lebende Künstler nicht nach Berlin fliegen musste.

For the site-specific installation under the centrally located red oak tree, suitable scrap
metal was collected in advance. In an acoustic process, 31 tones of the German lullaby
Schlaf, Kindlein, schlaf were tuned from it.
David Horvitz’s sculpture installed in the oak breaks down the melody of this traditional
German song into individual notes, each coming from large sounding bodies. Every
individual note of a sound tube is a fragment of the complete song, which exists only
at a particular moment in time. Taken as a whole, the sounds complete the lullaby and
progress in time to create a surreal dream state.
Visitors of the BRITZENALE are invited to tune the chimes and create the lullaby or an
alternative soundscape.
For this work, David Horvitz, the BRITZENALE team, and Bernd Trasberger worked closely together to realise the concept, so that the Los Angeles-based artist did not have to fly to Berlin.
